Heritage apples

Did you know that many supermarket apples stay in cold storage for up to a year? Distributors source from wherever is least expensive within their established channels. Supermarkets will choose apples from 10,000 miles away if they’re cheaper than apples grown just 10 miles away. The main contributors to insane trade are subsidised transport, free trade agreements, import-export tax rebates, and differences in labour costs and environmental and safety regulations – not seasonal availability of fresh produce.

We grow about 20 different varieties of British apples. We have very limited storage facilities, so the apples we sell are organically grown, fresh from the tree and full of nutrients and flavour.

We want to fix broken food systems. If you are local food retailers, caterers or cooks why not buy direct from us?

Some of our apples

Spartans : shiny purple with a crisp, white, sweet, juicy flesh. Loved by kids.

James Grieve : Good for eating fresh or cooking with a sharp taste and plenty of juice.

Ashmead's Kernal : sweet and somewhat nutty, also good for cider making
