Our Story
FarmEco is rooted in history and tradition, operated by Home Farm under the stewardship of David Rose, a third-generation farmer. Since its inception in 1933, the farm has been committed to sustainable agriculture, evolving to meet the needs of the environment and the community.
David's passion for innovation has transformed FarmEco into a hub for research and education, hosting Agroforestry projects and serving as an example of responsible farming. Guided by family values and forward-thinking practices, FarmEco continues to thrive as a model of resilience and sustainability.
Our Mission
Our mission is simple yet powerful: to create a sustainable future for farming that serves both the planet and its people. As a Community Benefit Society, we are driven by the belief that agriculture should enrich lives, foster biodiversity, and build stronger communities.
Through collaboration, innovation, and education, FarmEco aspires to leave a lasting legacy for future generations. From nurturing the soil to empowering individuals, every aspect of our work is geared toward a better tomorrow.
Our Values
- Sustainability: We prioritize environmentally friendly farming methods that protect and restore the natural world.
- Community: Our farm serves as a space for education, collaboration, and shared growth.
- Innovation: We embrace new ideas and practices, such as Agroforestry, to enhance productivity and ecological balance.
- Accessibility: We are committed to making our farm inclusive and welcoming for all visitors.
What We Do
At FarmEco, we are more than just a farm—we are a vibrant ecosystem of ideas, people, and practices aimed at making a difference. Here’s a closer look at our key areas of work:
Arable Farming
We cultivate certified organic fields, allowing the soil to regenerate naturally. By 2025, our fruit trees will also be certified organic, reflecting our commitment to healthy, sustainable produce.
Agroforestry
Our innovative Agroforestry system combines rows of trees with traditional farming methods. This approach promotes biodiversity and creates a harmonious relationship between crops and the environment.
Sheep Grazing
Our dual-flock system integrates sheep grazing into our orchard and arable fields. Not only do they provide natural fertilization, but they also act as “biological lawn mowers,” maintaining the landscape with minimal impact.
Our Community Impact
FarmEco is deeply embedded in the local community. From hosting workshops and educational programs to organizing events, we strive to bring people closer to nature and agriculture. Every initiative we undertake is designed to connect people with the land, fostering a sense of responsibility and belonging.
We are also proud to collaborate with schools, businesses, and organizations, providing unique opportunities to learn about sustainable farming and environmental stewardship.
Accessibility
FarmEco is committed to making the countryside experience enjoyable for everyone. We’ve made several improvements, such as adding an accessible toilet and designated disabled parking spaces, and are actively working to enhance accessibility further.
Our partnership with an occupational therapist helps us identify ways to improve mobility access across the farm. We encourage visitors to explore our videos showcasing the farm’s facilities to plan their visits accordingly.
